It's A Quiet Friday Night

It’s Friday night and I’m at home with just Mikey & our two darling dogs Zorro & Zoe. The other two chickadees Baba & Megs decided to take a bus to their nanny’s place even though I wanted to drive them there. It’s Megs first time on the bus without me… She put up a strong fight with me and finally I caved in. My dear 10yr old son tried to assure me that he’ll take care of his sister, take care he will but Megs is so strong willed that if she’s angry or upset, she’ll just go her own way; so yeah I was praying hard that the two of them will just sit still (thankfully it’s not very far). The bus driver was nice as he gave me a nod, as if to say I’ll keep an eye out for them. An eye out he did, because when the kids got down, he waved to my mum who was waiting for them.
I can’t believe how fast they are growing. My sleepless nights are now gone, baby bottle & diaper days over, yet I still don’t seem to have time?.. I remember when the older two were babies, as busy as I was, I still had time to entertain, keep the home clean & tidy and even fix jigsaws. Now I don’t entertain except at Christmas, the home is always messy, in fact it’s falling apart thanks to my interior designer son Mikey and my last jigsaw (2000pcs) was in year 2000.
Anyway, I’m going to enjoy my quiet and alone time too bad I didn’t chill any white wine.

Breakfast, Flowers and Dinner

Wow, the days are going rather quickly, too fast actually. I keep saying to myself that I have to blog about this and that but I’ve done nothing…! Had a lovely weekend; Tuan was finally off this weekend and golly, it’s great having him home. Apart from the usual lunch outings and church (by Church, I mean, dropping the chickadees off for cathecism then scooting off..), we drove to Thomson Medical centre to visit a friend who had just given birth to a lovely baby boy. It’s their third following two girls aged 8 & 6yrs, the mother 40yrs! I take my hat off to her and congratulate her on her strength.
Today started out to be a grumpy one, and those who know my chickadees (older two) will know how they are with lack sleep. Everything they did and said was wrong. We decided to make a trip to the Orchid Gardens at Mandai for breakfast with mother dearest. While my expectations were low, Tuan darling who was dreaming about his American breakfast , had high expectations and was totally disappointed. “Things change darling, you know better now”. After a quick walk around the place, we headed off to one nursery after another. From Mandai to Thomson to Bedok South. Flowers while my favourite are not suitable for out flat as we don’t get direct sunlight, morning or afternoon. Still we took a chance and bought a few pots.
After an afternoon of potting, planting & laundry, we headed off to Edward & Mischa’s place for dinner. Aunty Henrietta, dad’s youngest sister, is down from England and had to see her grand niece Caitlin. Aunty Hen looks damn good and I can only hope I’d look like her when I’m in my late 60’s. Pity I don’t have any picture of her, but no worries, Edward will definitely post some. After a few glasses of wine, good food, great company I’m ready to call it a night. That was my day, may not seem exciting to some but darn it, who cares as all that matters is that I spent with my my family.

It's All About Life

It’s back to school this week and I couldn’t be happier…. Term four is usually the shortest school term of the year and while I’m looking forward to the year end break (Christmas is coming!!!), I can’t help but enjoy my alone times while the chickadees are at school.
We had a lovely weekend with Megs having taken the “Act of Reconciliation” (confession for those Catholics who forgot). Yep, she was nervous I tell ya, practicing away in the car. I was wicked as usual and kept reminding her to add that she’s been rude to me, while daddy dearest told her that being rude to me is not a sin. It is right (Honor your mother & father). Sunday was Caitlin’s baptism (read Edward’s blog).
It was daddy’s birthday on Monday, Sept 11, and if still around he’d be 72yrs. Eight years have passed and still not a day goes by without me thinking of him. He’ll be overjoyed with his grandchildren and he would be especially thrilled with the new edition Caitlin. I can imagine that it would be a tough fight over Caitlin between the two grandpa’s.
While time does help ease the pain of losing someone we love, it also makes it easier to remember all the times shared. Daddy may be physically gone but parts of him are so present especially in my siblings. Andrew, sounds exactly like daddy, especially over the phone and each time I talk to him, I’m always comforted by his voice; Patricia has inherited daddy’s generosity, always giving even though she needs it more; Jocelyn most certainly has my dads hardworking & committed ways and Edward has his gestures, the way he walks, his hand movements, the way he lifts his glasses and wipes his face, so daddy and all 5 of us have definitely inherited our father’s stubbornness. Daddy lived his life like everyday was his last and he appreciated all that he had. He would not want us not to count our blessings but be grateful for them and most importantly he would want us to always remember the importance of family. He would also be really proud of our mother as to how far she’s come and how strong she is. So the man we called “husband, father, papa, son, brother and most of all friend” we love you, till we meet again.

WESTLIFE in Action

Megs & I have just come back from the Westlife concert, yep you read it right, Westlife. I must say that I enjoyed myself. We went with Karen & Kellynn and yes came home with goodies (suckers). It’s been almost a decade since my last concert, it was either BREAD or YANNI, I can’t remember. So for this housewife, Westlife is like super wow!! I’m surprised at how little has changed, I would have thought 10 year son, Singaporeans would be wilder and more spontaneous, but not so tonight, most of them just sat there. Anyway, honestly, I do like their songs but Megs is a bigger fan. It was her first concert ever. Megs started out feeling really shy but by half way thru’ the concert our friend was dancing and swaying her arms. The two girls were shouting and laughing away. Pictures will be posted on Megos blog tomorrow. For now, madame is already fast asleep dreaming of Westlife probably.
